 Synopsis. (Spoiler Alert)

• The film begins with three young friends: Tre Styles, and half-brothers Doughboy and Ricky Baker, growing up in South Central Los Angeles, a neighborhood marked by gang violence and poverty.

• Tre moves in with his father, Furious Styles, after getting in trouble at school. Furious instills discipline and responsibility in Tre, hoping to keep him away from the pervasive gang culture.

• The narrative then fast forwards seven years. Tre is a responsible young man with plans to go to college, while Ricky, a gifted athlete, has a scholarship opportunity. Doughboy, however, has been in and out of prison and is heavily involved in the drug trade.

• Ricky and Doughboy's relationship is strained due to their differing life paths. Ricky is viewed favorably for his athletic talent while Doughboy is often dismissed as a criminal.

• Ricky and Tre are stopped and harassed by the police, exemplifying the tension and racism in their neighborhood.

• A rival gang member kills Ricky after a run-in at a local convenience store, which deeply affects both Doughboy and Tre. The tragedy nearly pushes Tre towards seeking revenge, but he ultimately steps away, realizing the cycle of violence will only continue.

• Doughboy seeks and enacts vengeance for Ricky's murder, reinforcing his entrenchment in the gang lifestyle.
